The skin is stretched
over the head
of the drum
His hands are sure
calloused
and brown
His eyes are open
slightly wide
What I notice most of all
are his ears
His body is tense
like a cougar
prepared to strike
waiting in the stillness
for the perfect moment
to pounce.
